At first it was difficult getting used to following the music, like the notes, and rests and all that jazz; because as you may or may not know, in our band, we don't very often put our songs down on paper. We pretty much all play by ear, so when it comes to playing and singing together, we just do whatever we want, without much regard to music theory. I guess you could call it our "Save The Trees and Ink" policy. However, soon, it got easier, and it turned out sounding pretty darn good, with all the vocal parts and dynamics. So seriously, singing in the choir was awesome. Believe it or not - we actually sang in an opera before. The Marriage of Figaro - under the tutelage of Dr. Waterbury of Shasta College, so being in the choir challenged our "forgetfulness" on how to read music, etc. We just want to say thanks to our Choir Director and favorite Worship Pastor, Rich Kirkpatrick. Thank you for your dedication, and for taking time to teach us vocal techniques.
So for those of you who have the opportunities to do new and crazy things, (like being in a choir) but you're afraid to do them because you think that other people will think it's lame, and that you will be un-cool, here's a tip. FORGET THEM AND DO IT!!!!!!!! Try new things, it won't kill you. Unless it's like swimming with great whites, doing drugs, becoming an alcoholic, riding a bike on the freeway, or jumping out of a plane without a parachute, then yes you might die. So don't do these things. We love you guys and want you to tell us about all the cool opportunities the Lord Jesus has given you. So do safe, fun, new and God honoring things. God gave us life as a gift, and he gives us new opportunities all the time to shape us into the people he wants us to be. So seize the day and have fun. (Note: no one in the band has ever skydived.)
